Ropella Industry Expertise

When most people hear ‘clay’, they think of elementary school art projects, and perhaps professional pottery. When they hear ‘talc’, (which is actually a type of clay mineral,) they think of talcum powder, better known as baby powder. Both of these naturally-occurring minerals are often used in ways we might not expect.

Perhaps not surprisingly considering its bright white color, talc is used in paints as a brightener and whitener, and is also used as a bleaching agent in paper production. In the manufacture of inner tubes and rubber gloves, talc is used to coat the inside of the surfaces in order to keep them from sticking. It is a great absorber of moisture, oils, and even odors, and is even used as a glidant additive in both foods and pharmaceuticals. Clay has historically been one of the most important building materials the world has ever seen. It can be baked into bricks, and can also be used as a mortar in brick chimneys. It’s used in pipes, dams, landfills, and in a number of industrial processes including the production of both paper and cement.
